What To Expect

Nature At Their Finger Tips

We have two covered outdoor areas for learning activities to occur in as well as 4.5 forested acres with two year-round creeks. The main yard includes a playset, children’s garden, construction area, and mud kitchen. As a nature inspired program children will be learning outside for 50% or more of their school day. We believe that children of all ages need time to learn and explore outside everyday, rain or shine. Each day children are expected to come dressed for the weather and ready to head out to play, believing in the wisdom of explorer Ranulph Finnes, who said “There is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing”.

Nature Inspired Indoor Classroom

Our indoor classroom space includes several stations for children to explore and interact with including dramatic play, building, reading, art, science, and math. There will be focused times as well as free play times to allow the children time to grow and learn.

Individualized Learning

Our teacher to child ratio is 1:3. This ratio allows us to take the time to work individually with each student so that they can grow in all areas.  We will scaffold learning activities based on each child's needs.

Literacy

Our children will have opportunities to learn the alphabet and phonetics through natural experiences in the forest, daily story time, and hands on activities. We will have daily practice using curriculum designed by Haggerty and Learning without Tears. Exposure to literacy will be embedded throughout the students natural day.

Creative Expression

We love all forms of art and encourage creative expression at Creek Kids. We provide an endless array of art and craft supplies and encourage the recycling and upcycling of materials. Children are allowed the complete freedom to create their own masterpieces.

STEM Activities

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.  Below are some ways STEM exploration happens at Creek kids.

Rest and Recharge Time

Children will have a separate quiet room to relax and recharge in. Learning can be exhausting and a mid-day rest is the way we honor the children’s hard work.   Teachers will read a quiet book or play music at the start of nap. Towards the end of nap period, children who are awake will be invited to do quiet work at their bed which may include drawing, coloring, reading, or completing puzzles.

Healthy Meals

While at school, children will be served two healthy snacks along with a nutritious lunch. These meals are included in their tuition. The food is cooked onsite by the teachers and seasonal food is prioritized as well as food grown onsite. When appropriate, children will be invited to help prepare meals.  We can accommodate food allergies as well.
